After 6 years SKCC is dipping its toe back into crit racing at a suburban course. We have found and trialing a new circuit in Capella Crescent in Moorabbin found here. The Moorabbin circuit is our first step to finding something more permanent and to have SKCC back as a regular organiser of crits. Kingston City Council is willing to work with us and keen to explore how we can find something that can be successful and build into the racing calendar. We need the riders out there to give it a go, race the course and tell us what you think! You can sign up on Entryboss here.
The course is 16km from Luna Park and 8km from Beach Rd along South Rd. It is short, fast and flowing. The finish is an uphill drag to the top of the hill (not as steep as the Teardrop nor as flat as Glenvale). The corners will be fast, the road is smooth and wide. We will have a few cars parked on the course but we will give you plenty of notice that they are there.
As part of the trial we’re going to limit the numbers per grade to 20. This might not sound like many but it’s a short fast course and we need to work out the suitable size of fields. Just think that would give you even more chance to win part of the $1500 prize pool on offer.
We acknowledge that we’re going against Carnegie Caulfield and their racing at Glenvale. As such we are proposing to alternative the racing such that A & C grade go first at 8am and B & D grade go last at 10:15am. We’re going to see if we can stagger the women too. This will give a chance for most riders to get two races in for the day. It takes about 30 minutes to get between courses and so will give you a great opportunity to take advantage of multiple racing if you choose.
New to racing then sign up to Latte laps. Conducted by professional cyclist, coach and sports physiologist Maryam Rogers, Mazza will share with you the secrets of the crit…plus we throw your first race in for free once you have completed your Latte Laps session. Latte Laps can be entered if you have an AusCycling free trial, lifestyle or race membership (with any club). To take advantage of your free race you will need a race license or single day/weekly race pass.
