Matt was talked into riding, and then racing, by a close friend when he’d finished rowing and found running wasn’t an option anymore (medical term is cactus knees). Matt can still remember his first race on the old SKCC criterium circuit when someone said simply, hold Kevin Ford’s wheel and don’t let go!! Next was the introduction to the Murray to Moyne as an SKCC fundraiser for the St Kilda Mission. Some 300kms later and still with hairy legs Matt was threatened with a Gaffer Tape waxing by a female club member if he didn’t shave down. He then formally joined the hairless legs fraternity, much to the Pringle family’s amusement. That weekend away with SKCC was the foundation of a long and enduring friendship with the SKCC “Gronyards”.
For more of an insight into Matt, we asked him the Five Questions…
- If you had a time machine & you could go back 10 years
Go back another 10 years and do it all again, but properly this time!
- If there was a movie made about your life, who would play you?
George Clooney of course – he’s copied my grey beard perfectly.
- If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
Tough one, perhaps how to understand the opposite sex?
- Who or what motivates you?
Selflessness is a huge motivator; it never ceases to amaze me how some great role models can give themselves over so freely to the service of others.
