About two years ago I started prioritising exercise into my life. I started with running (very slowly), and gradually increased my fitness and strength over about 8 months, by which time I completed a 35km run. This was a massive achievement for me, and one that was well beyond my expectations. Soon after this, my eldest sons joined their school on the Great Vic Bike Ride, and I decided to join them two years ago (on a borrowed bike that was too big for me). I enjoyed it so much that I asked them if I could join them again for a second year, to which they actually agreed!! This led me to buy my first road bike in September 2017, and I have not stopped riding since.

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a Bicycle Network event called “Pathways to Women’s Racing” hosted by Cycling Victoria and She Race. I was very lucky to meet some wonderful women who gave me my first step. I am now a SKCC Member! And lots of information that helped for me to make the next steps to racing.

My first week I rode on nearly all of the SKCC Women’s rides, this was a challenge for me as I am not an early riser. All the women were very welcoming and supportive, and gave me lots of advice and tips when I mentioned that I was considering doing a race. I signed up for my first race, the KOM Financial Women’s Handicap Series Race 3, with little to no idea of what I was doing. I had so much fun doing the race, and was very lucky to win a podium 4th place.

Thank you SKCC, She Race, Cycling Victoria, Bicycle Network, Alison (my ride leader), Kath (my race buddy), Kay and Edi for all your wise words and encouragement. Now to my next race…but before that the 5 Questions…

1. If you had a time machine & you could go back 10 years what advice would you give your younger self?

I would convince myself to start my active lifestyle (and buy a road bike) as soon as possible.

2. If there was a movie made about your life, who would play you?

Kathryn Hahn, she looks almost identical to me!

3. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

To be able to warp time, that way I could fit those extra things into my day!

4. Who or what motivates you?

My children (all four of them) motivate me in different ways.  I also find inspiration in so many people I meet, everyone has something that I can learn from.

5. Which emojis best describe your philosophy on life (Maximum of 3 emojis allowed)
