The SKCC Club Road Championships are back and are going to be bigger and better than ever this year. Lock in Saturday 29 August because this is going to be another classic SKCC event not to be missed.

We are going to be racing on an all new course for SKCC at Harcourt North which will be familiar to any of you that have competed in the Vic metro road champs. But with a twist. Prepare yourself for hilltop finish at Harcourt North befitting of the title ‘SKCC Road Champ’. This year the road champs are brought to you by Event Naming Sponsor – BikeBug.

The course will comprise a combination of the following two loops:
56km Circuit
12km Circuit

You choose which title you wish to contest. You can choose to take a crack at “the big one” OR whichever age category you’re eligible for. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be awarded in each age category (where numbers are appropriate).

Race briefing will be at the driveway entrance to 36 Ford Road. The race is then under control until bunches have entered North Harcourt Road and for a further 1km descent and subject to instruction from the the Chief Commissaire. All grades at this point have commenced the 56km circuit. From the start at North Harcourt it is 9km to the start of the smaller 12km circuit with a left turn at Market St in Harcourt for those grades using this loop.

We intend to offer Junior racing but this will depend on the level of interest we receive. The Harcourt 12km circuit offers a more suitable race environment for juniors with a race start and finish from Harcourt itself. Registration for Junior (J13 & J15) will be at the Tread Harcourt cafe. Start time for Juniors J13 & J15 may be subject to change depending on interest received.

On completion of Junior racing it is a very short drive (10 mins) back up to North Harcourt for presentations and the BBQ.

We have a great venue for registration, coffee, snacks and a BBQ after at the Morris Minor Garage & Cafe – booked for the exclusive use by SKCC for the day. Our hosts Richard and Kim Mckellar will be on hand serving up delicious coffee and snacks.

Why not bring the kids and make a day of it?

kids can roam the property on their mountain bikes
take the Morris Minor tour 11:00am (this is a lot of fun with an awesome selection of cars, memorabilia and history)
visit the on-site artists studio
take a ride on-site in a Morris Minor rally car
walk or ride down (300m) to watch the hill top race finish
enjoy the BBQ and Awards presentation
See this video for a better look at the Garage / Cafe / Registration

We will advise shortly the entry procedure. We will need volunteers so please let us know if you can help – we cannot run this race without help from members. Can you volunteer? Contact Gaelene on 0414 432 850 (AH or weekend) or info@skcc.com.au

It’s a day for the whole family, with lots to do at the Morris Minor Garage, room for the kids, BBQ and great racing. You could even make a weekend out of it with racing on the next day in Bendigo with the running of the Rob Vernon Memorial road race.

Accommodation is available at cycle friendly Tread Harcourt for those who want a leisurely start to the day.

We are looking forward to a great turn out from club members and would encourage everyone to come and support your club. Even if you are not racing there is great riding in the area and you are welcome to enjoy all the drama of the finish, BBQ and presentations to follow.
