Huge news behind the scenes – real progress is happening with Albert Park. Road closure signs are now up on Lakeside Drive, with works commencing to upgrade the roads. These works will include track widening for criterium racing and F1, upgraded road surface and better bike lanes for safer commuting. It is a thrilling time for the Melbourne cycling community. We expect to be hosting races this year.

The Power House Redevelopment: To complement the criterium course and build the best cycling facilities in Australia, Power House is pushing hard for the last bit of Victorian Government funding to help redevelop this tired old building. Once redeveloped, SKCC will have storage space and access to toilets, showers, event spaces and a café.

We need your help. We need to continue to communicate to the state representative of the City of Port Phillip area know that this building needs attention. I urge you to email our local MP, Cabinet Minister Martin Foley, and let him know the road improvements and the Power House redevelopment are priority projects for the upcoming state budget for the City of Port Phillip area.

Please consider sending the following short letter (just copy and paste, add your details and send) and encourage family and friends to do the same:

Subject: St Kilda Cycling Club – support for cycling at Albert Park Lake and Power House improvements

Dear Minister,

I am an active member of the St Kilda Cycling Cub and very excited to hear and see the Albert Park Lakeside Drive road works are commencing, including road surface improvements and automated traffic barriers to support criterium racing in the Port Phillip area.

As you are aware, St Kilda Cycling Club is in active discussions to make its home at the Albert Park Power House building once redeveloped. I urge you to include funding for the automatic barriers and for the Power House project in the upcoming state budget.

Regards
