Helen and her husband have 3 children aged 11, 13 and 14 and Helen started cycling in 2013 or 2014 as a way to keep fit because running started to take its toll. Helen’s hubby also rides and was keen to join him on his bike! Helen found her way to SKCC in late 2016; she was initially with Hawthorn Cycling Club until her daughter took up track and joined SKCC. Helen thought she would make it a family affair and followed her daughter to SKCC.

Helen found it tricky to find a group to ride with as most of her female friends were either too scared to ride on the road or not confident riding a bike. She can’t quite recall but thinks that someone at a bike shop pointed her in the direction of Breeze Rides and then joined Alison (Raaymakers our Club VP) and Lisa (Byrne) on the Breeze Along the Boulie Ride and Laura (Parlevliet – our Club Secretary) on the Box Hill Breeze Ride and loved both rides!. These groups taught Helen everything she knows but honestly believes the more she rides the less she thinks she knows! 4 years later she is still riding each week with these wonderful groups!

Helen is a stay at home Mum but has returned to uni to study Psychology and loving it. You can often find her wondering how she could incorporate cycling into any future assignments!
