A great night was had by almost 190 SKCC members, guests and sponsors of the club. Special thanks must go to our Gold sponsor Belgium Beer Cafe for their assistance in not only providing the venue but also their help in organising the event. The night kicked off at 6.30pm with drinks and nibblies before the curtains opened at 7pm to reveal the main hall and I'm sure those that went will agree that the room looked beautiful.
And then the party started! Monty (our resident MC) was up to his usual tricks, I'm not sure our new kit will ever be looked at in the same way. Prizes were given out thanks to our numerous sponsors and charitable friends. There were travel vouchers courtesy of Adventure Travel, 2 nights accommodation courtesy of the Urban hotel group and free passes to attend Pilates. There was also a separate raffle which was held to raise money for the Sacred Heart Mission. Almost $750 was raised for the charity which I am sure will be used to benefit those less fortunate than ourselves. A big thankyou must go to Justin from Oakley for supplying 2 pairs of Jawbone sunglasses as well as Rob Crowe for donating a 2 hour riding consult.
And then there was the band! Dicorama as the name suggests played a fair bit of disco music that was easy to dance to. From the first song we had people up dancing. ....so well done to the early dancers that showed the way. A big thankyou must also go out to Discorama for their performance, they were fantastic and I'm sure we'd love to invite them back in future years. Please join with me in thanking the organisers of the event. Firstly Kristin for all her hard work in organising much of the event , although not officially part of the Social team she threw herself at the job and did a fantastic job. Then of course Rob for printing the promotional aids and the tickets, Donald Ridley, Dave Sewell, Lisa Flahrety, Liz Georgeson and Russell Easton for all their hard work with everything Kristin didn't do. Check out the photos on the website and see you same time next year?

It's been a long cold winter but its time to start thinking of 30 degree summer days at the Bright Training Camp.
Traditionally anyone building strength for the Tour of Bright or the summer racing season uses the Bright training camp as a trip to the mountains not to be missed. Over three days club riders climb the three major peaks in the Alpine District fully supported by Ridewiser, with a club dinner on the Saturday night, and great accommodation all weekend.
This is a training weekend for A&B grade riders. Advanced C grade riders intending to ride the Tour of Bright could consider this weekend but should call Rob Crowe at Ridewiser first. The weekend includes the BIG 3: Falls 120km (12th), Hotham 100km (13th) & Mt Buffalo 80km (14th). The rides are all 'out-and-back' routes from the accommodation with a daily pre-ride format spelled out by SKCC Olympian and on-road advisor Rob Crowe.
Accommodation is at the Coach House Inn a prime location right in the heart of Bright, and it's a great spot with pool and restaurant on-site. (Did we mention the brewery across the road?). Get in quick to reserve your spot, as the camp fills up fast, and it is one not to be missed if you are up for solid training.
Please use this payment form and ensure payment is received by Friday 15th October 2010 to secure your spot. In order to secure our booking and room rate, SKCC needs to pay for the accommodation in advance.
Please note that we cannot refund your payment (unless you find a replacement) if you decide to cancel your booking in advance of the weekend.
The cost per person is $265. This includes:
- - 2 nights' accommodation - shared motel style rooms (Friday & Saturday)
- - Breakfast and dinner Saturday 13 Nov 2010
- - Breakfast Sunday 14 Nov 2010
- - Rob Crowe Cycling Motivational Presentation (Saturday night)
- - Ridewiser BIG3 Rides: Pre-ride intros, stretching sets, on-road coaching advice
- - Ridewiser van support (note that the van will follow the main bunch so you will need some spares)
For more information and booking enquiries please contact Shauna Tupper from the SKCC Training Committee by email or on 0403 210 197.

Spring is finally here, so that means that the next criterium race season will soon be underway.
The first SKCC race kicks off on the 10 October, 1 week after the Worlds and we are hoping for another great year of racing. Michael from Soul Kitchen will be there to supply you with your caffeine hit and St John's Ambulance will be on duty - we hope they have a very boring race season.
The only issue we need to cover now is volunteers to help out with the set-up, running and pack-up of the course. This year the SKCC Committee has decided to employ a person from a traffic management company to manage the set-up and pack-up of the traffic management equipment (that's all the signs and traffic cones that keep vehicles off the race course and gives you all a clear race) but they are still going to need some help! Again this year we have selected volunteers by how often they have raced and how long since they have previously helped out. You should only have to help out once every 3-4 years. A letter has been sent to all the volunteers with the roster, there is also a roster on the website. Please check the roster and mark it in your diary. Everyone who helps out will get a free race entry. If you are that addicted to racing, you can even race on your marshal day, as long as you bring someone along to help out while you are racing. If you want to know what is involved in marshal duties, this is also listed on the website under Marshal Duties. If you would like to volunteer, please email us with your details and suitable dates as we can always do with extra help. In particular we could still use some help on the Rego Desk. See the website and if you can help out on any of these days please let us know.
Without members' assistance it would be impossible to run races from October to April so we thank you for your help and encourage you to volunteer even if you aren't on the roster this year.

If you have any cycling kit that you haven’t worn in some time and aren’t planning on wearing again, wait a moment before you simply throw it out; it may well help out some kids in need! We’re looking for cycling kit in good condition that you no longer need or want, and that you’re willing to donate. The donated cycling kit goes to students at Vermont Secondary College (check out their Girls’ Latte Riding Group program) and the kids we’re talking about here share our passion for cycling but may not always have the means of purchasing what can often be quite expensive, but necessary, clothing! Often these children come from less privileged families or have had long term illnesses.
Several SKCC members have already donated pre-loved kit, and we’ve received really positive feedback from the recipients of this cycling clothing; we’re inspiring a whole new generation of budding Tour riders, both male and female!
So if you have anything that could help out, please contact Ernie or Alison to arrange a drop-off or pick-up. Thanks for your help!
